What is Poultry Seasoning

You may be wondering what’s in poultry seasoning?!  Poultry Seasoning is simply a seasoning blend often used in turkey and stuffing recipes.  I always add a little spoonful to my broth or chicken soups to add that savory flavor we associate with turkey dinner.  Hints of sage and rosemary make dishes taste so homey.

You can find it in the spice aisle at the grocery store (or online) but you can also quickly and easily make your own at home.

You very likely have all of these ingredients on hand to easily make your own DIY poultry seasoning blend.  Most of the spices you’ll likely have already blended except the rosemary.  I just put it in my coffee grinder or magic bullet to grind a little bit.

Once mixed, this will keep in the cupboard for up to 6 months in an airtight container or spice jar and this is the perfect substitute for poultry seasoning from the store. This is a small recipe making only 3 tablespoons but it can easily be doubled or tripled if you’d like more.

It’s great added into any recipe using chicken including casseroles, dumplings.  When I am roasting a turkey (or chicken), I also rub the outside of the bird with olive oil and then do a rub of poultry seasoning, salt and pepper.  It makes the most crispy savory skin and tastes wonderful!
