SHRIMP: Popcorn shrimp are meant to be the size of, well, popcorn! For a small bite with a big flavor, choose fresh or frozen 61/70 or 51/60 size for the best results.

EGG & FLOUR: A quick dip in flour and then in beaten egg helps the coating stick!

BREADCRUMBS: Panko bread crumbs add crunch while seasoned breadcrumbs add flavor and ensure even coating.

How to Make Popcorn Shrimp

Popcorn shrimp is made much like chicken tender by dipping in flour mixture, egg, and seasoned bread crumbs.

  • Pat shrimp dry per the recipe below.
  • Dip shrimp in seasoned flour, then egg, and finally bread crumbs.
  • Bake, air fry, or pan fry per the directions below until golden brown.

Oven Bake per the instructions below or air fry/deep fry if you’d prefer.

Air Fryer Popcorn Shrimp: Preheat the air fryer and spray shrimp with cooking spray. Place in a single layer in the basket with enough space between the pieces for the hot air to flow. Flip after two minutes or until they are cooked through and crispy.

Deep Fryer: Lower prepared shrimp into hot oil in small batches and cook until they are crispy. Drain on paper towels before serving.

Leftovers

Keep leftover popcorn shrimp in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat them under the broiler or in the air fryer until they are crispy and heated through.

To Air Fry
